Bull kelp withstands the strong flux of currents due to its intricate root system attached to the sea floor known as a ‘holdfast’. Sometimes the entire structure, from fronds to anchor, can be found washed ashore in highly exposed areas where the current breaks free the plant from the sea. This piece highlights a deconstructed holdfast.
