Britta Adams
Born and raised on an island in Southeast Alaska, Britta has always found inspiration from the sea. From jumping off the roof of the boat with her family to swimming 10.5 miles through the Wrangell Narrows or hours on a paddle board, crossing channels and exploring coves, the water continues to capture her attention, decade after decade. Even when seasons change and gale winds cover the surface with whitecaps, you’ll find her perched up high looking out, woodstove roaring, enjoying the waves from home.
Britta uses light sensitive iron salts, a process referred to as cyanotype, to develop deep blue images that silhouette coastal treasures. Looking at objects inverted in this way, almost as an X-ray, creates a layer of detail that brings interest to the eye and curiosity to life beyond dry land. Her current work highlights a variety of local seaweeds.
